We have habits. We do repeat same things, because we are the creatures of habits.

Some people eat specific fast-foods.

Some people love Komeda's coffe moring sets.
Some people eat too much meat.
Some people love gambling. Some people do nothing but complain every day.
Some people love speak ill of others.
...

Bad habits make your life bad.
And good habits will make your life better.

    Habits design your life.

If you want to improve your life. And if you want to be happier...

Just Change YOUR HABITs.

Learn habits of rich people if you want to be rich.
Look successful people's habits and try imitate'em to succeed.

Sometimes facebook frustrate me

Well, I like facebook. But using facebook sometimes makes me feel uncomfortable.

Sometimes it is not easy to find functions.
Sometimes I receive unclear messages, some kinds of unexpected warnings.
I could not identify until what part of my activity in facebook is open to my friends, subscribers.
It takes time to understand how apps work.
Unexpected changes are also frustrating.

...

Well, maybe my facebook friends must feel frustrated with labyrinth of facebook.

Now, let's take a break. Log off facebook and go to twitter.

Why Japan insist on North Korea?

Why Japan focus on North Korea so sensitively?

Well, basically a nation needs an army. Government impress the needs of the national army to the public.
To justify the army, government often set a specific foreign country as an potential enemy. Then, government advertise the potential enemy is a big threat to the nation.

Well, let's look surrounding countries of Japan. Which country can be 'suitable potential enemy' for Japan? If you consider carefully, I dare to say that only North Korea would be on the list.

As a matter of fact, North Korea is a convenient country for Japan politicians.
Especially there are difficult bill in diet, medias in Japan focus on North Korea widely.

Does Japan like North Korea?

North Korea plans to launch rocket soon. This news is covered significantly by TV news programs and newspapers everyday in Japan. The North Korea news broadcasted repeatedly with fear of military regime combined with nuclear weapon depelopment concerns.

Why do Japan one-side media insist on North Korea rocket so persistently?

Now Japan has many issues inside. Fukushima, nuclear power plants, AIJ pension scandal, consumption tax increase.
Looks like media is going to make us to forget inside issues and look outside.

I am not a counsel, but...

From now on maybe I will write something about news in Japan.

An old American soldier looking for Vietnamese at Detroit

'I am Japanese. ... but why?'
I was surprised, and replied immediately.

'Oh. Are you?'
The gentleman said.
'Excuse me, but you didn't look like them.'

He turned his face and took a look at other Japanese in the restaurant. Many of them were still waiting for the waitless to come with expression of discontent. Some of them were complaining with loud voices.
While, the only one waitless in the restaurant walked slowly like deliverately.

Yes. I didn't want to be like them. So, it was a good thing form me that he thought I shouldn't be Japanese.
'But why Vietnamese? During my stay here America, some people asked me if I am Chinese or Korean, but no one asked me if I were Vitenamese befor.'

The gentleman said. 'I want to find Vietnam people.'

He was retired soldier. Once upon a time he went to Vietnam war.
His team had a big trouble. He was injured, and was lost in a jungle with no foods.
Local Vietnam people have found him at a jungle. They treated his wounds, gave him foods.
He could recover and could go back to America.

'I still regret that I could not say "Thank you" to the Vietnam people who helped me at that time.'
That's why he was looking for Vietnamese. He just wanted to say "Thank you".

After years, I sometimes recall him, and think if he is still looking for Vietnamese people to say thank you.

I was mistaken for Vietnamese at Detroit

It was Thanksgiving week at 2004. The airplane I was aboard found some engine trouble soon after it left Detropt airport. The pilot decided to go back to Detroit, then the flight was cancelled.

The airline made hotel reservation, and gave dinner tickets to passengers as an apology of cancellation.

There were a lot of Japanese people in that airplane.
They went to the hotel that the airline reserved, and rushed into the hotel restaurant.

The hotel and its restaurant which is close to Detroit airport, had to accept a lot of Japanese people.

There seems only one waitless in that restaurant.

Japanese people who rushed into the restaurant looked at the waitless, raised their hands.
Some Japanese called her to come, saying:
'Hey, come and take my order!'
'I am hungry! Hurry up, woman!'

It is not unusual in Japan that people expedite
waitlesses/waiters in restaurant.
But, I didn't behave like them. I sat down, just keeping quiet. I even didn't looke at the waitless.

Then, look! The waitless come to my place first!

I was able to eat meal earliest at the busy restaurant!

After I enjoyed the dinner, a gentleman come to my place.
He said to me:
'Excuse me mister. Would you tell me if you are Vietnamese?'

Who was that gentleman?
Why he asked me if I am Vietnamese?
I will write about it in next post.

What becomes a problem because floor is dirty?

I once worked with quality person to prepare customer's audit. He said:

"This time our customer will visit two of our suppliers, I need to tell them to make the floors clean of their plants. Maybe should hire housekeepers by the time customer will come..."

I was curious why he said 'hire housekeepers', because I thought that normally plant workers would like to keep workplace clean.
But the quality person knew floors of both suppliers are dirty, and workers there were not willing to clean the place by themselves. That's why he said hire housekeepers by customer visit.

Well, hiring housekeepers would be a temporary solusion, but not permanent one.

I think better way is workers at manufacturing plant are willng to clean the floor.
Maybe managing people should think to encourage workers so that they will love their workplaces.

You want to learn Toyota quality system?

During I was in Delphi, many engineers gave me similar questions.

How can I understand Toyota quality system?

Toyota motor company is one of the world largest automakers. Toyota became important customer for US auto suppliers. Therefore, it is also important to understand Toyota's quality system for them.
Many engineers were told to read books and understand Toyota quality system by managing people. But once they began to study Toyota quality system, they face problems.

As far as I have experienced, American people think very logically compared to Japanese people. Maybe if they study something from Japanese companies, they would feel confused because of lack of logics.

Once they start to learn quality system of Toyota, they find a lot of amazing practices and great results. But since there are few logics, American engineers have a lot of questions, and they will feel uncomfortable since they could not get answerd to their qestions.

I recommended them to study Deming first, before studying Toyota.
Maybe you will find logics from Deming's books, then after that, you can see practices from Toyota.

Mr.William Edwards Deming was American consultant, and has huge influence to Japanese especially to manufacturing companies.
Because Deming was American jentleman, it would be easier to understand for American engineers. And, after they study Deming, it would be easier to understand Toyota because many of Toyota's quality managements are practices of Deming. And I think they will find many answers from Deming's books to the questions appeared when studying Toyota's quality system.

40 months @ Delphi

For 40 months, from 2003 April to 2006 August, I was a liaison engineer at Delphi.

I had various experiences during the time, found and thought about cultural differences between Japan and US automotive industries, quality issues, and customer relationships. I will write those thins as far as I remember in this label.

It is becoming messy

Unexpectedly, there are many applications to download. I may need to sort out my iPhone.
